WICE Holds 29th Annual National Conference
The 29th Annual National Conference of Women in Colleges of Education (WICE) was held on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, at the Theatre Arts Auditorium of the Federal College of Education (FCE), Obudu, Cross River State.
Themed “Revolutionizing Nigeria’s Education and Economy: Leveraging Artificial Intelligence, Innovation and Creativity,” the conference brought together scholars, policymakers, and educators from across Nigeria to explore the transformative role of technology and innovation in education and national growth.
In his welcome address, the Provost of FCE Obudu, Dr. Richard Ugbaha Utubaku, expressed appreciation to WICE for selecting the institution as the host. He assured delegates of their safety and comfort while encouraging them to explore the scenic Obudu Mountain Resort, a globally recognized tourist destination ideal for reflection and collaboration.
Delivering her valedictory address, Professor Theresa O. Okoli, outgoing National President of WICE, reflected on her four-year tenure as one of growth, resilience, and unity. She commended WICE members and executives for their dedication to advancing women’s empowerment, professional development, and leadership across Colleges of Education in Nigeria.
The keynote address, presented by Professor Phoebe Ojone James, highlighted Artificial Intelligence and innovation as key catalysts for educational transformation, economic advancement, and national competitiveness.
The lead paper, delivered on behalf of Dr. Opie O. Ngaji by Dr. Mark Nke, traced Nigeria’s socio-economic development and underscored the importance of strategic leadership, consistent policy implementation, and innovation-driven reforms for sustainable progress.
A major highlight of the event was the presentation of awards to distinguished personalities in recognition of their contributions to education, leadership, and community development.
Senator Jarigbe Agom Jarigbe, Senator representing Cross River North Senatorial District, served as Chairman of the Occasion. He was ably represented by Mr. Egar Mgbantul, who received the award on his behalf. Senator Jarigbe expressed deep appreciation to WICE for its role in promoting gender equity and educational excellence and pledged his continued support for the association’s initiatives.

2. Hon. Abdullahi Ahmed – Chairman, Governing Councils of all Colleges of Education in Nigeria.
3. Professor Zana Akpagu – Former Vice Chancellor, University of Calabar.
4. Dr. Osakwe Evans Ijenya – Registrar and Secretary to Council, Federal College of Education, Obudu.
